In geophysical exploration studies, wedge model analysis is a classic experiment that helps quickly grasp the relationship between key elements such as wavelets, stratigraphic thickness, and resolution. Traditionally, completing a wedge model analysis could take half a day or more. However, ColchisFM has revolutionized this process by shortening the wedge model setup, parameter input, and forward modeling from ten minutes to less than two minutes, significantly enhancing work efficiency.
To reduce operational complexity and facilitate understanding for beginners, the latest version, ColchisFM 2024, has integrated a built-in wedge model analysis module. With this “what-you-see-is-what-you-get” design, users can begin analysis work instantly. Below is the interface for the wedge model analysis module:
Figure 1: Wedge Model Forward Modeling and Tuning Amplitude
Figure 1 displays the forward modeling results and tuning amplitude curve for the wedge model, using a 25Hz Ricker wavelet and equal-energy, opposite polarity reflection coefficients. The peak tuning amplitude can be observed by moving the cursor to a thickness of 15.41ms, and from the λ/ (2.6) formula, we calculate a wavelength (λ) of 40.07ms, yielding a dominant frequency of around 25Hz, consistent with the input wavelet. Using the traditional λ/4 understanding, we calculate the resolution to be 10.02ms.
ColchisFM also supports a one-click switch to generate forward models with double peaks or double troughs, as shown below:
Figure 2: Double Peak Wedge Model Forward Modeling and Tuning Amplitude
Figure 2 shows the tuning curve for a double peak of the same polarity. Picking the maximum tuning amplitude again shows a time thickness of 15.41ms, consistent with Figure 1.
