At the beginning of 2021, Saudi Aramco and Colchis signed a collaboration agreement to jointly commercialize Saudi Aramco's innovative and patented full-wave sonic logging data processing and interpretation technologies to help oil and gas companies for the improvement of their E&P efficiencies.

With the joint efforts of both parties, Wellbore Acoustics Visualization & Evaluation System: WAVES1.0 was successfully completed and delivered, and the commercial version was officially launched at the "From Core to Reservoir" Digitalization and Intelligent Technology Conference held in Xi 'an Shiyou University in October 2021.

Ribbon-cutting for WAVES Launch

From December 13 to 15, Colchis successfully completed a 3-day training course for Aramco staff on the operation and use of the software. This training course was well received and WAVES was highly commended by Saudi Aramco after the training. Participants described WAVES software as " very user friendly and intuitive & fit for the purpose."

WAVES logo, acoustic technology as the design inspiration

WAVES provides an easy-to-use platform for geoscientists, petrophysicists and engineers. It is an integrated acoustic processing and interpretation system for near-wellbore petrophysical, geological and reservoir properties characterization. This system provides such solutions as fracture prediction and azimuthal analysis, wellbore stability evaluation, reservoir and rock mechanical properties studies. It can be used for aiding drilling and completion designs, etc. To be concise, WAVES serves as a One-Stop-Shop E&P platform for integrated geological and engineering workflows and analysis, to reduce uncertainties, improve operational efficiencies and lower well cost. With the formal commercialization of the WAVES system, we look forward to bringing E&P professionals a convenient tool that integrates geoscience and engineering operations to help oil and gas companies to reduce costs and improve efficiencies.

Mr. Ashraf M. AlTahini, Manager of Saudi Aramco's EXPEC Advanced Research Center delivered a speech at the WAVES launch.
